The knowledge all that gained so well
By sweat, by brow, by midnight oil
The books heaved open and left unread
Those which were read and turned to shreds
The scrolls written, the lessons preached
Burning through sun, through burning heat
The riches frothing, raging bold
The earth, the rivers, all blinding gold
All want, all need, all necessity
At command of the will, at mercy
Of wealth, of lucre, of riches unbound
No cove unearthed, no treasure unfound
The kingdoms conquered brought to knees
The lands, the mountains, mighty seas
The legends, bards and myths and stories
Of wars, of conquests, of towering glories
Undying loyalties, faith and trust
Promises kept and turned to dust
And I have travelled far and wide
With knowledge, riches, power and find
That none of them managed to brave
Only Thy love, Thy grace gave breath
And strength to reach beyond the grave
Everything else ends in death.
